Title: This Thing
Medium: Television
Fandom: The Colbert Report & The Daily Show
Paring: "Stephen Colbert"/Jon Stewart
Summary: It's hard enough to reconcile oneself with one's beliefs, but what one's to do when one falls in love with another man? A man as forceful and disrepectful as Jon Stewart, who will seize every occasion to threaten one's virtue?
Warnings: None

Most of the songs are from female artists. I know some people feel characters and singers should belong to the same gender, but in this case women just said it better! I decided to favor lyrics over voice. It works for me, I hope it'll work for you too!
La Roux - Reflections are Protection (POV Stephen)
My reflections are protection
They will keep me from destruction
My directions are distractions
When you're ready, come into the light.
Anouk - The Other Side of Me (POV Stephen)
Do I really want to know myself
Do I want to see
Why I'm wonderin' every morning, who's it gonna be today
Staring in the mirror, come tell me, who's that under my skin
And what's the reason we're here for
Tell me what is my own true face
Tell me what is my own true face
But hey here I come
I'm the show's main attraction
I'm a beautiful creature
That's what I am, yeah that's what I am
Ladyhawke - Crazy World (POV Jon)
Sick of all that we have to be in this life
Gimme all that you have
Gimme what you like
Waiting here for a fool to begin his life
And you, you try to remember
Flipping coins from a tin
Till he feels the night
And you, you try to remember
We're part of a
We're part of a
We're part of a
A crazy world
Tori Amos - Crucify (POV Stephen)
Every finger in the room is pointing at me
I wanna spit in their faces
Then I get afraid what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach
I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now.
I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Just what God needs
One more victim
Hooverphonic - Eden (POV Jon)
Did you ever think of me
As your best friend
Did I ever think of you
Im not complaining
I never tried to feel
I never tried to feel this vibration
I never tried to reach
I never tried to reach your eden
Kate Bush - The Song of Solomon (POV Jon)
Don't want your bullshit
Just want your sexuality
Don't want excuses
Write me your poetry in motion
Write it just for me
And sign it with a kiss
(This one is sung from an explicitly female POV, but I feel it still fits the narrative pretty well. I'll let you be the judge.)
Little Boots - Remedy (POV Stephen)
I can see you stalking like a predator
I've been here before
Temptation calls like Adam to the apple
But I will not be caught
'Cause I can read those velvet eyes
And all I see is lies
No more poison killin' my emotion
I will not be frozen
Dancin' is my remedy, remedy, oh
Stop, stop prayin' cause I'm not, not playin'
I'm not frozen, dancin' is my remedy, remedy oh
Move while you're watching me dance with the enemy
I've got a remedy, oh, oh, oh
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (POV Stephen)
and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
Obvious choice is obvious...
MGMT - Hot Love Drama (POV Stephen)
when I was younger
life was all magic
everything fell in place
but i still worry
worry for hours
imagining the life we're in
without a sleep
but you came and you saw
and you spoke
and i conquer most fears
but not all
and you stop and i'll falter
i love her
i dont think
you think that i'm foolish
stop the kids, stop the love
that leads to
hot love drama
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy (POV Jon)
Said there ain't no use in crying. Cause it will only, only drive you mad
Does it hurt to hear them lying? Was this the only world you had? Oh-oh
So let me take you, take you to the movie. Can I take you, baby, to the show.
Why don't you let me be yours ever truly. Can I make your garden grow
You know.
Idan Raichel - Mi Maamakim (Out Of The Depths) (POV Jon)
It's in Hebrew. Here is the translation:
From deep depths I called to you to come to me
with your return the light in my eyes will come back
it's not finished,
I am not leaving the touch of your hands
that it may come and light up/wake upon
hearing the sound of your laugh.
From deep depths I called to you to come to me
the moonlight I will again light your way to me
they're spread out and melted again
the touch of your hands
I whisper, ask in your ears:
Who is it that calls to you tonight - listen
who sings loudly to you - to your window
who put his soul so you'd be happy
who will put his hand and build you your home
who will give his life, put it underneath you
who will be like dust living at your feet
who will love you of all your lovers
who will save you from all evil spirits
from the deep depths.
From deep depths I called to you to come to me
the moonlight I will again light your way to me
they're spread out and melted again
the touch of your hands
I whisper, ask in your ears:
Who is it that calls to you tonight
M83 - Close Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun

Date: Wednesday, 16 September 2009 14:57 (UTC)Hadn't heard most of these songs before, and I was clearly missing out. Especially loving Reflections Are Protection and Mi Maamakim.
And I don't think the female voices are a problem at all - if songs about m/m relationships (or f/f ones, for that matter) were limited to songs with the appropriate voices and pronouns, there wouldn't be much variety in mixes :3
